Best Drunk Food in OC

What’s a night out without some late night eats? We’re feeling your pain after a night out at the bars only to be disappointed by some limited grease fest choices. No shame to be had here in indulging in some 3 am drunk food before your pass out….its no secret that its hard to hang like you used to in college when you weren’t worried about getting every second out of your weekend to do all your errands, try to decompress from what was no doubt yet another stress filled week, and, oh yah, have some fun too. So, to help you out a bit we’ve compiled a few solid food options to help you recoup from your Friday or Saturday night out so you can be sure to be on your game bright and early the next morning to take care of all the rest of the junk you have to do.

Out on the Peninsula??

Jane’s Corndogs
corndog
We have to label this one as R2E’s fave…first of all its different. Second, right on the boardwalk so you can make a quick getaway on the bike and enjoy the ocean waves all the way home. Don’t worry, they have more than just hot dogs if you want to try to mix it up. Beware cuz we’ve heard stories of a creeper who will try to take advantage of your lacksidasical state by jumping ahead of you in line and trying to buy up all the fresh-dipped dogs before you can get your mits on one. Just keep your cool…we haven’t seen them sell out yet!

For all those Peninsula regulars you know we just have to include the Big Cheese.

Laventina's Big Cheese

We like to think of this as the Newport version of Little Caesar’s Hot n’ Ready…except not as wallet friendly as those $5 specials. Pizza is tasty enough and takes all the guess work out of the night. Highlight: If you missed your chance to talk to that hottie while you were out you will probably find them here to take your desperation shot at trading some phone numbers.

Secret taco window behind Blue Beet!?!?? You bet….

Blue Beet Late Night Taco Window

We’ve never quite been sure if this is part of El Tarasco or Blue Beet itself…but who really cares? Look for the line around 2am....they aren’t waiting for cabs. Highlight: Carne Asada tacos! So good we’re not sure if this has always been in our imagination b/c you can never seem to find the window before the beer munchies remind you to quietly sneak off from your crew and go searching.

Can’t make up your mind but in the mood for an old classic? We’re sending you to:

Harbor House Café

Like your upscale Denny’s (well, sorta) specializing in “Seafood, Mexican, and American” as stated by the restaurant so you’re promised to have a little bit of everything. We’d stick with some classic early-morning favorites like their omelets (20 different to choose from), sandwiches, or burgers. Highlight: Open 24hours so you can stumble on in whenever you so please and are sure to be in good company!

This is your standard for the nights spent out on Main Street at the Black Bull Chop House or 301 Beachfront. We think you’re familiar enough we don’t have to rave about this one too much. Highlights: Location, open 24hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

3-Thirty-3

You really can’t beat this spot if you want a one-of-a-kind view of the water. Just watch out for the cougs and your Newport bad boys who forget they’re 50+. So long as you’re walking in and knowing what to expect it’s a nice enough spot for some late night indulgence. Serving their bar menu from 11pm-1:30am, you’ve got Nachos, Mac & Cheese with Bacon, Kobe Beef Gorgonzola Burgers, or Steak and Eggs with Hashbrowns on your mind.

Saving the best for last, this wouldn’t be a drunk food article without some greasy Mexican fast food on the menu. Here are a few options for the late night burrito lover (we’re also guilty as charged):Just a disclaimer, we’re not saying you won’t wake up regretting your visit here in the morning light but they promise to do the trick as a stop before you hit home.

Molca Salsa

If you’re out in Fullerton, this one is probably a must though you will likely be making a treck back from wherever you are just to stop here. Highlight: They accept credit cards! We recommend sticking with the faves: Carne Asada burrito, Carne Asada fries that promise a triple coronary by 35, or, if you’re looking for the lighter option (yes, sadly it really is the lite dish of the three), go for the super nachos.

Alejandro’s Mexican Food

burritoA bit more convenient, located in Costa Mesa near Sutra and Goathill Tavern and probably not anything you would ever notice (or think positively of) driving by during your errands on Sunday. Highlight: Burritos and rolled tacos…you usually can’t go wrong. They also accept credit cards.

Albertaco’s Mexican Food

We think this is the grand daddy of late night burrito spots….partly because of the sketchy surroundings and partly because of the always solid food. Probably want to keep your eyes closed around the kitchen but the horchata, rolled tacos, and carne asada fries are sure to please. Highlight: Definitely the salsa bar! Be prepared before coming here because this one is cash only.
